This is a decision that I *might* regret later on. Not because it's a bad one, but because I know, this decision might lead me to something I can't control. I can only hope I wouldn't be crazy obsessed about it. Yesterday, I've offered my help for one of Sharon Needles fan blogs on tumblr, fuck-yeahsharonneedles. There are a lot of fan blogs of hers, but this is the one I've been following. Plus, looking at the page they already have 4 people as their group members, which means there is a big possibility that they'll let me in, rather than if I apply to help to a one man blog. So I observe the blog to check who is in charge amongst the 4 of them, whom I could message to beg to join? Hmm. I decided to send a message to a girl who seemed to post the most. She has no problem with me joining, and a couple hours later ... I was in.
I actually have some advices to these kids though. I'm a fuck yeah blog veteran so I know my way around it.
1. First up, never ever rely on submission. No one submits. Even if some people do, it's usually nothing great. You have to rely on yourselves to post quality materials. Make gifs, look for pics, reblog others, anything.
2. Have a strategy on gaining popularity and more followers. When discussion posts are up somewhere, even if it's somewhere foreign, pimp and post your link. Promote it in relevant blogs, reblog them so they are aware of you and will want to reblog you for mutual promotion.
3. Have a strategy on posting. Especially when your subject is not that popular. I know, to you they're the best, they're awesome etc. But when it comes to good materials to post to make other think the same as you ... let's be honest here, there might not be that much of them. Specifically we're talking about RuPaul's Drag Race contestant like Sharon Needles. Granted, there are a lot of pics of her out there. Granted, there are a lot of videos of her out there. Granted, we'll get new materials every week when the next episode is up but how many is many? Remember, this show is only on its' second week out of fourteen. Don't abuse what you have or you'll end up having zero materials to post when it's getting closer to the end of the season. Last year with Raja, I got so ambitious, I usually post 5 things a day, and when the finale is closing in, believe it or not I used to post 10 things a day. It was crazy! Especially considering the last episode before finale was just a recap/outtakes of previous episodes, no brand new materials.
I think posting strategy is the most important. Looking at the blog right now, there is no organization, no schedule, no strategy whatsoever. It's only been 2 weeks since the season started and yet you already has more than 200 posts, looking at those posts today probably 230 right now. OVERLOAD. Don't abuse it. Remember, there are a lot of new Sharon fans who haven't discovered this blog yet. And when they do, do you still have good materials to post to keep them around?
I put my stuff in drafts hoping that it could be some backups for slow news day, but I came to the office this morning to find that all of them are gone to either queue or are already posted. I live on the other side of the world, my timezone is 12-14 hours earlier than you guys, and I have a full time job. Which means, I will be sleeping when you guys are awake, and I will be at my office when night time come for you guys. I have limited time to dedicate for the blog, and with that, my strategy is to stock up stuff that are ready to post anytime (hence the draft). If I could access the queue I would queue my posts.
The good thing is, as of now, there are 5 members of the group. This is great because maintaining a gaining popularity fuck yeah blog by yourself is never a good idea. Unless you're a prefectionist, jobless at the moment and need to obsess with something to distract from your real life (which was me last year lol). Having team members is good to share the load, but my OCD self would love it even more if there's some kind of organization. Like, one person in charge of reblogging, one person in charge of ninjaing pics and post them, one person in charge of answering questions and promoting the blog, one person in charge of making gifs etc. I don't see it'll happen though, lol. I barely know the kids and one of them is a 16 year old gay boy so .... yeah. I have nothing against a 16 year old but my age is almost double theirs, and I doubt that we have anything in common other than our (possibly temporary) fascination towards Sharon.
