I had a Conversation with a Kris Fan
Yesterday I attended my Korean class. I enjoy the classes, but the one thing that bothers me, is that it is really hard for me to switch from Japanese mode to Korean mode sometimes, especially when I have translation deadlines like right now. I really want to focus on translating, but I had to attend the class. I can feel my Japanese and Indonesian language skill deteriorating as I'm trying to learn Korean. I'm trying to find my ways around it.
My class basically is separated into two; people who sit on the left side, most of which are from the original Sejong 1 Tue - Thurs class, and the right side which is ... transferred students from other classes. I'm in the original group with my friends, and we don't switch seats which cut the chance of ever talking to people from the other side of the class.
Yesterday after class I saw one person from the other side walking to the same direction I was walking to, so I decided to talk to her. I've never really talked to her before, but I do remember her from her self introduction when we first started our class, because she's an EXO stan. She is (or was) a Kris fan. I called her to wait for me and we walked together while talking about EXO.
Me : Hey, how are you holding up with Kriseu leaving the group?
Her : Ah, I hate it, I haven't been able to move on, I haven't seen or read anything about them since, even about the solo concert.
Me : That's a pity, when they're finally coming here, too.
Her : Yeah.
Me : I'm happy that it's official though, that they're going to visit here. Are you still going or...?
Her : I don't know, I haven't found another bias. If someone could talk me into going, I'd probably go.
Me : It's a sad thing, really. And Kris was the only one who could speak English, too. I wonder how they're going to promote abroad after.
Her : Yeah. Is Kris your bias too?
Me : Oh, no, not really. Mine is Luhan.
Her : Aww, he's cute. He's too cute.
Me : I know, right? He looks six. I wonder how M's going to deal with this, Kris was their leader.
Her : Probably they'd appoint Xiumin now.
Me : But when they're promoting in China, they gotta have someone who talks Chinese, so it's probably Luhan or Lay who's going to do the talking.
Her : Ah, right. Xiumin isn't fluent in Chinese.
Me : So how long have you been following them?
Her : I've been following them for quite a while, from MAMA era! That's why this hurts so much, I hate this.
Me : I've been following them from MAMA era, too! Not teaser era, but it was still MAMA era.
Her : Oh, no, I didn't either. There were so many teasers.
Me : 23 teasers! I was actually into SuJu back then, and then I had the chance to see EXO at SMTown and I like them since.
Her : Oh, that time when EXO-M came to Jakarta?
Me : No, it was for Super Show, I went to SMTown Live, when they had everyone on stage. I saw Chanyeol and Kris, and they were so tall and cute, and I've been following the news since.
Her : Yeah, they're so tall! Even taller than the tallest in SM, Changmin!
Me : I know, right? And D.O is the tiniest, lol.
Her : Isn't it Chen?
Me : I think it's D.O, he's so tiny this one time Kris drew all the members in stick figures and D.O's was the shortest one lol.
We parted ways when we reached the main road. It was nice to have a conversation with her. I'm too old to be an EXO fan, hence there's no one around me who understands. It's nice to have someone to talk to about something you're passionate about.
This made me think of a lot of things ... like how we were both hurt, but it's different because Kris is her bias. She couldn't continue with EXO, with everything. And I couldn't continue with anything that has to do with Kris. When there's an update or news on Kris, I chose not to read/click. Simply because I'm an EXO stan, and when one decided to leave the group, then that person is no longer relevant to my interests. I don't think there's anything about that person that would not transform into negativity in the fandom since the news broke, and I would like to avoid that. I have enough problems in my real life to have to deal with more negativities online.
But I also thought ... what if my bias decided to leave the group? What if Lulu leave the group, what would I do then. I probably would be in the same state of mind as her, I don't know what I would do, but it would break my heart to read anything about EXO anymore. And even if Lulu will have a bright future in his solo career, everything will never be the same. And to some people, there will be wound that will never heal.
