Handmade Postcards VS Store-bought Postcards
So lately because of postcrossing, I've been sending a lot of postcards - handmade or not - to many other postcrossers. Dhani, my colleague at work said that a lot of people are posting their pics of card they offer on instagram and doing swaps from there. She convinced me to make an account to post my cards, and I did.

I was too naive though, I wrote that I would love swaps and I post my best handmade works, thinking that they would attract people with similar hobby/interest/art style. Turns out, so many people wants to swap with me. But the catch is ... they don't make handmade postcards. I doubt they make handmade anything. One of them even called my cards "DIY cards" which ... is not a term I'd prefer. Now I've abandoned the account and kind of regret making one :/

Different case, but similar - on postcrossing. As a crafter that I am, I feel offended when people say they don't like handmade cards just because we don't spend money buying it at the store. "I spent money buying cards, and I should receive something equal in return". Well here's the deal; handmade cards are far more valuable than your store bought cards because not only the supplies to make it could be very expensive, it also involves time, energy and LOVE to make. It definitely needs more effort to make than just going to your local bookstore to buy some standard touristy postcards. I, for one, would NEVER send anyone a shitty card. I will tailor it according to what the receiver might like, I will spend a whole lot of time trying to think of the design, the concept and the details. And there would be only ONE of them in the world, I just don't get why some people seems to really hate handmade cards.

If you find people who are interested in handmade postcards you should let me know, or ask them if they would mind trading with one of your friends as well. :)

That does seem pretty horrible.

I was thinking of making a post on my journal for my friends, and anyone else 's friends, to swap cards. Maybe we should start a community instead? Kind of like secret Santa... only with post cards? Each month we could assign people to each other, etc.

That's why I deleted my account instantly. I feel offended getting store bought cards because I feel they are half asses and have no emotional value. Receiving something that is ART is like receiving a piece of someones soul. Even if it isn't that great artistically speaking, the effort it took to actually create something is worth more than ANYTHING to me.

And yea, usually I like people to send me things first, because I am extremely generous when it comes to how I mail people. I want to always make sure my mail is just as good, or better, that what I received. I always feel so horrible when I get something better than what I sent in the mail. I don't want to let people down because I know how it feels. (then in my case people have just not sent me anything at all after agreeing so... maybe it isn't the same. And I am generally happy with anything at all hahahahaha.)

Also, sorry. I feel like I created an addiction in you. XD

I actually got one person who also make handmade cards to swap with me, but it's not exactly art. She uses washi tapes to cover the whole card, and I did the same for a swap with her. :/

I was actually looking for a community just like you described, but found nothing :( I would join in an instant if you want to make one! Sadly I don't have enough time to maintain a community right now.

If you're interested, I found this blog for art swaps :
http://mailmesomeart.blogspot.com/
I like that they decide on themes and anyone can join, but we have to send the cards to the mods first for then later she send them out to everyone. Plus I'm outside the US which means my card will get forever to reach there and I have to paypal them money for the stamps.

Yes OMG I need my art swap fix all the time because of you! Hahaha.

I just made a bunch of postcards made from Japanese food packaging decorated with Washi tapes and some paints, I will send you one! (This will be different with the art swap, I will think of something for next month XD)
